Iron Gate Resident Was Fincastle Native

Roy (Popcorn) Kenny Burrell, Jr., of Iron Gate, Virginia, was called home to be with the Lord Friday, May 14, 2021 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Roy was born in Fincastle, Virginia to Roy Kenny Burrell, Sr., and Pearl Elaine Ward Burrell.

He is survived by his wife, Norvella Hunter Burrell; son, Zachary Mack of Roanoke; bonus children: Ebbony of Manassas, Russell of Lynchburg, and John of Roanoke; nine grandchildren; his precious dog, Atomic; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kelvin and Bertha Burrell of Fincastle, Emory Burrell of Troutville, Roger Payton and Essie Burrell of Troutville; sisters, Rita Chaney of Roanoke, Janice Burrell of Troutville, Karen Williams of Toledo, Ohio, Adrian Hancock of Roanoke; and many loving family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his brothers, Gregory Burrell, Johnny Burrell, and Corey Hancock; and a sister, Elaine Arrington.

Roy enjoyed life. He loved relaxing with his dog, Atomic and spending time with friends. Most important to him was his family.

A home going service celebrating Roy's life will be held on Saturday, June 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road Daleville.
