Self-Employed Truck Driver, Was Vietnam War Veteran, Dies At Age 70

John Wayne Smith, 70, of 2721 Vassar St., Low Moor, Virginia, died Sunday, May 23, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born July 4, 1950 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Floyd E. Smith Sr. and Gladys Brown Collins.

He was a self-employed truck driver.

He was a member of the Curtis A. Smith Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1033. He served two tours in Vietnam in the United States Army, receiving two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was a Blue Blood American as well as an avid car lover and loved his 2017 yellow Dodge Challenger R/T.

In keeping with his wishes, he body has been cremated.

Surviving are his companion, Shelia Smith of Covington; a step daughter, Tammy Pascarella and husband, Terry of Covington, GA; a sister, Linda Lampkin of Martinsville; friends, Billy Fury and wife, Elizabeth of Low Moor; three nieces and nephews; three step grandchildren, Cody Thompson of Covington, Summer Jennings, and Tatum Jennings of Ash, NC.

A service will be held at a later date.

The family suggests memorial donations to be made in Mr. Smith's name to the Wounded Warrior Program at P. O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516.

The funeral arrangements are being handled by Arritt Funeral Home.
