Covington Piano Professional Dies At Age 72

Mr. Clarence (Chip) Windle Farmer, Jr., 72, passed away at his residence on June 6, 2021.

He was born in Alleghany County, son of the late Clarence W. Farmer, Sr. and Sue Jennings Farmer.

Chip graduated from Alleghany High School in 1968, then continued his education in piano at St. Louis Institute followed by a degree in Opera Performance from Webster University. He studied at The Sims School of Piano Technology in Georgia and came home to follow that career.

He married Deborah Locks in 1977 and had one son, Brandon, in 1979.

Later, Chip returned to school and received his Doctorate in Piano/Technology & Engineering in 1998.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Kimberly of Richmond, as well as his brother-in-law and wife, David and Linda Locks, and nephew, Hunter Locks of Hanover; and a host of cousins, extended family and friends.

The family will celebrate his life with friends and family at his residence at a later date.
