Covington Resident Worked With Garten Trucking

Mr. Alvis Edward Brookman, age 65, of Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, June 19, 2021. He was the husband of Stephanie Perkins Brookman.

Mr. Brookman was born October 4, 1955 in Maryland. He is the son of the late Alvis L. Brookman and Elsie Merson Brookman.

During his working career he was employed as a supervisor with Garten Trucking.

Alvis loved cat fishing, playing corn hole, and horseshoes, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

In his final days, Alvis lived with his daughter, Melissa in Hot Springs and was cared for by all three of his loving daughters.

In addition to his wife, Stephanie of almost forty-eight years, Mr. Brookman is survived by three daughters: Kimberly Brookman (Brandon) of Covington, Melissa Brookman Ryder (Andy), of Hot Springs and Barbara Brookman Townsend (Steven) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Richard Lee Brookman (Carol); three sisters, Lillian Wright (Johnny), Sandy Humphries (Ronnie) and Donna Welch (Jack); sister-in-law, Leslie Meadows; a special lifelong friend, George Allen of Maryland and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Brookman was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Hinkle, and his wife, Louise.

A memorial service will be held from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home at 2 p.m., Friday, June 25, 2021 with the Rev. David Brown officiating. The family will receive their friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in Lone Star Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, 9 East Church Ave., Roanoke, VA 24011.
