Obituary for Gilmer Hill Dressler Gilmer Hill Dressler
Former Westvaco Employee Was Talented Floral Designer

Mr. Gilmer Hill Dressler, age 69, of Covington, Virginia, died Thursday, June 24, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Rita Armentrout Dressler.

Mr. Dressler was born October 20, 1951 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Teddy Scott Dressler and Marie Rucker Dressler.

During his working career, he had been employed by Westvaco for a number of years where he worked in several departments including the billing office and the watchbox.

A talented florist, Gilmer worked at the former A Fresh Cut Above Florist and Gifts where he was known for his spectacular floral designs.

He was a longtime member of Johnson Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. A talented singer in his own right, Mr. Dressler was the church's choir director for over thirty years.

He was an avid tennis player and a member of the Covington Jaycees.

A wonderful person, Mr. Dressler was full of life and had a keen sense of humor that drew people to him. Most of all, Gilmer loved his family especially his grandchildren and truly enjoyed spending time with them.

In addition to his wife, Rita, Mr. Dressler is survived by a daughter, Heather Redmon and husband, Roy of Covington; a son, Christopher Dressler of Covington; two grandchildren, Rebekah Redmon and Hannah Redmon; and a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dressler was preceded in death by a brother, Teddy J. Dressler; two sisters, Ethel Snead and Dreama Ramsey; and an aunt, Glinia Dressler.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2021 at Johnson Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with Rev. Paul Burns and Rev. David Walkup officiating. Interment will follow in Johnson Creek Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Berkley Paxton, Jasper Jack, Jeff Dressler, B. J. Dressler, Jason Hepler, Scott Ramsey, Bill Reynolds and T. J. Dressler. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie McKinney, Michael Burns, Dr. Scott Brown, Steve Burgess, Steven Redmon, Sam Redmon and in tribute to a longtime friendship, the late Alfred Paxton.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.
