Alleghany County Native Was Westvaco Retiree, First Christian Church Deacon, Antioch Christian Church Trustee

Dana Randolph Humphreys, 82, of Big Ridge, Covington, Virginia, died Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Carillion Roanoke Memorial.

He was born May 31, 1939 in Alleghany County, Virginia, the son of the late Henry Madison and Estelle Smith Humphreys.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Daryl Humphreys.

Dana drove a bus his senior year at Dunlap High School where he graduated in 1958, started cutting pulpwood as a teenager and retired from Westvaco after 36 years of service. During those years, he worked as a foreman on number 5, 6 and 7 paper machines.

He was a member of First Christian Church where he served as a Deacon. He also served as a Trustee and Treasurer at Antioch Christian Church on Big Ridge Mountain.

Dana was always busy planting garden, visiting with people as he sold corn and beans from the tailgate of his truck, and was a NASCAR and Green Bay Packers fan.

Dana is survived by his loving wife, Una Clinebell Humphreys of 60 years; three daughters, Teresa Hammond (Rusty) of Covington, VA; Donna Norman (Barry) of Ronceverte, WV; and Cindy Morgan (Dean) of Covington, VA; four grandsons: Tripp Hammond (Kendra) of Hurdle Mills, NC; Josh Norman (Emily) of Ronceverte, WV; Travis Hammond (Alexa) of Lewisburg, WV; Tanner Norman (Michaela) of Ronceverte, WV; and granddaughter, Grayson Siers of Covington, VA; three great-grandchildren: Thomas Norman, Olivia Norman, and Berkley Norman, all of Ronceverte, WV. In addition, his two sisters: Linda Snyder (Gene) of Covington, VA and Shelva Quillen (Denny) of FL, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be held Thursday evening July 1st, 2021 at Arritt Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at First Christian Church, 231 E. Fudge St. in Covington, on Friday, July 2nd at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Christian Church building fund.
