Alleghany County Native Worked With Virginia Industries For The Blind; Was Popular Guitarist

Joseph Graham Hyler, age 85, of 626 Big Bend Farm Road, Millboro, Virginia, died Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at his residence.

He was born January 25, 1936 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Pete Jackson Hyler and Mabel Lee Ayers Hyler.

He worked for the Virginia Industries for the Blind, which assists those who are deaf or blind.

He was a member of Charlottesville Christian Church.

He enjoyed eating out with his friends, and loved singing and guitar playing. He played music at numerous venues including various nursing homes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Taylor Hyler; a sister, Martha Stinespring and three brothers, Jimmy Hyler, Bobby Hyler, and Billy Hyler.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Gwendolyn Stinespring; a special sister-in-law, Jerry Campbell of Hot Springs; two brothers-in-law, Frankie Campbell and Wiley Stinespring; a number of nieces and nephews; special friends, Donna O'Quinn, Billy Dorsey, Skeet Jack; and Ella Starks; and his "eating Friends", Fran Carter, Geraldine Roberts, JoAnne Brunetti, and Katie Posey. The family would like to thank friends, Frankie and Jerry Campbell, and Donna Lilly.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Mike Puffenbarger and Reverend Billy Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Millboro.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Liptrap, James Woodsell, Mike Stinespring, Rodney Stinespring, Bill Grimm, Shea McMullen, Timmy Hyler, and Bruce Hyler.

The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Bath Community Hospital and Kindred Hospice for their good care, and request that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Kindred Hospice.
