Floyd Menzow (Menzie) Overton, Jr., age 66, of 6382 Jones Creek Drive, Gloucester, Virginia and formerly of Newport News and Clifton Forge, died Friday, July 2, 2021 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester.

Menzie was born May 11, 1955 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Floyd Menzow Overton, Sr. and Mary Jane "Janie" Wood Overton.

He graduated from Christopher Newport University with a Masters degree in history. He loved all history, and was employed as a story teller and historian for Colonial Williamsburg.

He served in the National Guard and was a member of the American Legion. He also coached various sports, including cheerleading.

He is survived by his daughters, Misti Dame and husband, Tim Helmsetter of Newport News, and Stacie Brockman of Nashville; two grandchildren, Alexis Craft and Devin Dame; and his former wife, and friend, Donna Williams of Newport News.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Interment will immediately follow. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
