Obituary for Charlotte Sexton Ginn Charlotte Sexton Ginn
Low Moor Native Was UCLA Graduate, Longtime Educator

Mrs. Charlotte Sexton Ginn, age 97, of Covington, Virginia, died Friday, July 9, 2021 at The Brian Center, Low Moor.

She was the wife of the late George William "Tut" Ginn who preceded her in death on August 3, 2015.

Mrs. Ginn was born June 16, 1924 in Low Moor, the daughter of the late Charles Napoleon Sexton Sr. and Mamie Davis Gilliland Sexton.

She graduated from Covington High School in 1942 where she was the president of her class. Charlotte then married her husband, George Ginn, on July 6, 1942.

In 1956, Mrs. Ginn graduated from UCLA, with a Bachelor’'s Degree in Education. Following her graduation, she was employed as a teacher by the Santa Monica Unified School in California for twenty-nine years.

One of her proudest career accomplishments was the certificate presented at her retirement for outstanding accomplishments by the Santa Monica School Board of California.

Mrs. Ginn was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Charlotte and her husband, "Tut" enjoyed traveling extensively outside of the country as well as all over the United States before returning home to Covington in 2014.

Mrs. Ginn is survived by her nieces, Charlotte Elswick, Carol Grimmer, Linda Kresl, Lisa Curtis, Marigail Money, Becky Woodyard and Ginny Brown; nephews, Robert Adams, Charles Adams, William Elliott, Gary Mann and Tommy Mann; her wonderful caregiver and friend, Marsha Tucker; and a number of great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband of 74 years, George "Tut" Ginn, Mrs. Ginn was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles N. Sexton, Jr. and Henry C. "Buddy" Sexton; three sisters, Eleanor Elliott, Margaret Mann and Loise Adams.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Pastor Susie Ennis officiating.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105 and Roanoke Valley SPCA, 1340 Baldwin Avenue NE, Roanoke, VA 24012.
