Obituary for Roy Lee Reynolds Roy Lee Reynolds
Former Local Angler Passes in Roanoke

Mr. Roy Lee Reynolds, age 78, formerly of Clifton Forge and Covington, Virginia, was freed from all earthly pain on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at his residence, the Virginia Veterans Care Center, Roanoke.

Roy was born on Monday, December 14, 1942 in Covington, son of the late James Roy and Marion Lee Gilbert Reynolds.

He was a graduate of Covington High School, retiree of Hercules, member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church and Immanuel Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Roy enjoyed food (especially sweets), talking with friends, anything dealing with drums and marching bands, golf, motorcycles, hunting and being outdoors. He was happiest when trout fishing in the early morning hours at Douthat Lake.

He is survived by his daughter, Marcy Thompson and husband, Loren; sister, Marlene Faidley and husband, Jim; grandchildren, Ethan Thompson and Allison Thompson, all of Covington; nephew, Byron Faidley of Lexington; step-son, Buddy Kern; step-son-in-law, Gary Porterfield; step-grandchildren, Jonathan Porterfield and Heather Kern, all of Clifton Forge; several cousins; and a host of friends and staff at the Virginia Veterans Care Center, his home for the past eight years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Almeda Overton Kern Reynolds; step-daughter, Faye Kern Porterfield; and grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Thurmon Reynolds and Mr. & Mrs. E. R. Gilbert, Sr.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jim Moss officiating.

Memorial tributes may be made to the resident activity fund, Virginia Veterans Care Center, 4550 Shenandoah Ave., Roanoke, VA 24017.
