Norfolk & Southern Railroad Retiree Was Natural Bridge Station Resident

Edward (Jack) Eugene Fainter, 84, of Natural Bridge Station, Virginia, passed away Monday, July 26, 2021.

Born November 6, 1936, he was the son of the late James Lofton Fainter and Minnie Worth Fainter.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bob Fainter, and a sister, Betty Mikels.

Jack is remembered as a family man, friend to many, and jokester, whose favorite saying was, "Hurry up every chance you get," enjoyed seeing others smile, and was a big man with a big heart.

Jack and Gwendolyn happily celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 3, 2021. She remembers him as the love of her life and his daughters credit him with being the Best Dad in the World and was always there whenever needed.

Jack retired from the Norfolk and Southern Railroad with 30 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Gwendolyn Fainter; daughters, Nita Thrasher (Ben) and Dee Higgins (Sidney); three grandchildren, Derek Argenbright, Hilary Ramsey, and Emily Thrasher; seven great grandchildren; and special niece, Monica Simmons.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 30, at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Wes Galford and the Rev. W. David Bain officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church or Natural Bridge Christian Fellowship.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Buena Vista.
