City Of Covington, Emmanuel Episcopal Church Employee, Was Army Veteran

Roderick Marcus Jeter Sr., 60, of 316 E. Chestnut St., Covington, Virginia, died Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Lewis Gale Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor.

Mr. Jeter was born on November 20, 1960 in Covington, a son of the late Armistead and Doris Chapman Jeter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, De'onte Jeter; two sisters, Gloria Jeter and Brenda Brown; three brothers, Curtis Jeter, Armistead Jeter Jr., and David Jeter.

He served in the United States Army.

He worked for over 32 years as an operator for the City of Covington at the Water Treatment Plant as well as for 34 years in maintenance for Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

He was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, who he cherished for 44 years together, Renita West Jeter of Covington; three daughters, Sharell Jeter and Antoine Coles, Moneque Nevils and husband, Keenan, and Shaquon Stewart; a son, Roderick Jeter Jr.; four grandchildren, Jabari Williams, Ambrosia Higgin, Julius Nevils, and Jayden Nevils, all of Covington; a God son, Reshawn Jeter, Jr. of Covington; three sisters, Delores Jordan and husband, Lloyd of Fort Mead, MD, Rev. Claudette Stewart of Burton, TX, and Donna Winning and husband, Mike of Covington; eight brothers, William Jeter of Waco, TX, Charles Jeter of Fort Worth, TX, Stephen Jeter of Marion, Gregory Jeter, Robert Jeter and wife, Freda, Marshall Jeter, Lester Jeter and wife, Debbie, and Stacy Jeter, all of Covington; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Pine Street Baptist Church with the Rev. R. D. Jenkins, Sr. officiating.

The family will receive their friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Pine Street Baptist Church.

The interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions in Mr. Jeter's name be made to the Pine Street Baptist Church at 347 E. Pine St., Covington, VA 24426.

The Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia, is handling the arrangements.
