Lexington Native Was Human Resources Professional, Blue Ridge Resident

Brian Douglas Brewbaker, 61, a resident of Blue Ridge, Virginia, passed away after a short, unexpected illness on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.

Brian is survived by his beloved wife, Helen Cowan Brewbaker; his two children, Brian Douglas Brewbaker Jr. and partner, Heather Testerman of Roanoke, and Sarah Lynne Brewbaker and partner, John Bruce of Roanoke; granddaughter, Raelynn Nichole Bruce; his brother, Stuart Penn Brewbaker Jr. and wife, Kelcy of Buena Vista; sister-in-law, Katherine Schenker and husband, Jerry of Stuarts Draft; brother-in-law, William Cowan and wife, Laura of Branchville, N.J.; and nephews, Justin Dunn and wife, Rachel, of Andrews Air Force Base, Andrews, Md., and Will Cowan and wife, Caitlyn of Rockaway, N.J.

He was predeceased by his parents, "Coach" Stuart Penn Brewbaker and Betty Jane Craft Brewbaker of Lexington.

Brian was born on November 9, 1959. He grew up in Lexington and despite his many moves during his working career, he remained a hometown boy at heart.

Brian graduated from Lexington High School in 1978 where he was a member of the state champion golf and football teams.

He attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg. He graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. He was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity.

Brian and Helen married on October 5, 1985 at Immaculate Conception Church in Franklin, N.J., followed by 35 wonderful years of marriage.

After an illustrious, 20-year career in human resources, he enjoyed working at Ashley Plantation Golf Course until he retired in November 2019.

Brian was a devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather. He enjoyed going to the beach, golfing, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 9, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Oakey's East Chapel. The graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10 in the Oak Grove Cemetery, 316 South Main St., Lexington.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Feeding Southwest VA would be appreciated.
