Obituary for Sharon Lee Taylor Sharon Lee Taylor
Lexington Resident Dies At Age 73

Sharon Lee Taylor, 73, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at her home.

Sharon was born on February 21, 1948 in Wiesbaden, Germany.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Hildegard Doering, also of the home in Lexington.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Colonel (U.S. Army, retired) Douglas E. "Red" Taylor of Lexington.

Sharon was a proud Army wife for 30 years and contributed mightily as a volunteer leader at Army installations in Germany and the U.S. She worked tirelessly with the American Red Cross and other local organizations to support soldiers and their families, both deployed and stateside.

She was most proud of her children and grandchildren. Surviving are son, Douglas J. Taylor (Emily) of The Colony, Texas, Kelly J. (Taylor) Anderson of Severn, Md., and Nicholas J. Taylor (Julie) of Wilmington, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.

Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery on a date to be determined. Per Sharon's wishes, there will be no local service. Family will gather at the home in the coming months to celebrate her life in recognition of a strong woman whose love for family knew no bounds.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations go to the Rockbridge SPCA or St. Jude's Hospital for Children.
