Obituary for Charles William Buchanan Charles William Buchanan
Lexington Resident Worked With "The Phone Company"

Charles William Buchanan (Buck), 76, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2021 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He suffered a traumatic brain injury and a stoke, after a recent fall at his home.

Buck was born on May 24, 1945 in Aqua (Rockbridge County) and moved to Buena Vista in 1952.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Alice Virginia Harper Buchanan. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Robert Earl Buchanan Sr. and Virgie Adeline Wiseman Buchanan of Buena Vista.

Surviving are his two daughters, Alicia Shires (Steve) of Lexington and Jessica Tanglao (Rainer) of Denton, Md., and his brother, Robert Earl Buchanan Jr. (Harriet) of KnoxvilleTenn., and two grandchildren, Michael Marlowe Shires and Mildred "Millie" Adeline Tanglao; and two special cats, Isabel and Tommy Lee.

He worked for "the phone company," as he called it, for almost 50 years. The names changed so many times over the years, but when he finally retired in 2010, he was working for Centurylink.

His most favorite pastime was farming, and he loved horses. His love of farming began when he was a little boy, spending time on his Uncle John Wade's farm. He was fascinated by tractors and the Farm Channel was his favorite channel.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside celebration of life on Friday September 10 at 2 p.m. at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.
