Obituary for Lewellyn Lee (Luke) Veney Lewellyn Lee (Luke) Veney
Lexington Native Was Former Professional Basketball Player, Teacher, Coach

Lewellyn Lee (Luke) Veney passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Luke was born in Lexington to Robert William Veney Sr., from Waynesboro, and Margaret Golda Smith Veney, from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Luke was a graduate of East Tennessee State University.

After graduating from college, Luke played professional basketball in Europe for several years.

In 2014, Luke retired from teaching and coaching for the Juvenile Department of Corrections in Jamesburg, N.J.

Luke loved living life to the fullest, cooking, and sharing good times with family and friends.

Luke was preceded in death by his parents, Robert William Veney Sr. and Margaret Golda Smith Veney, and his sister, Inez Tyson Lynch.

His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his wife, Viola Veney of Virginia Beach, and siblings, Juana Veney Johnson (Dennis "DJ") of York, Pa., Robert Veney Jr. (Laura) of Newport News, Estelle Veney of York, Pa., Patricia Johnson of York, Pa., and Percival Johnson of Columbia, S.C.; a very special nephew, Lorenzo Tyson (Jaquetta) of Lexington; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service/celebration of life will be held at Boulding Mortuary, 471 Madison Ave., York, PA17404, on Saturday, October 2, 2021. Private visitation for immediate family will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m., followed by general visitation until 2:30 p.m. The memorial service can be viewed and condolences left for the family at www.bouldingmortuaryinc.com.

A casting ceremony officiated by Evangelist Robert Veney Jr. will be held in Virginia Beach on Saturday, October 9 at 7 a.m.
