Selma Resident Was Retired Private Sitter, Church Of God Of Prophecy Member

Brenda Lee Jeffries Downey, age 75, of 1412 Donovan Street, Selma, Virginia, died Sunday, September 26, 2021 at her residence.

She was born August 23, 1946 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Charles Woodward Jeffries and Lillian Pace Jeffries.

She was a retired private sitter and attended the former Church of God of Prophecy of Covington.

She loved music, including guitar and piano, and was a true Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan and Dale Ernhardt NASCAR fan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Countryman and a brother, Donald Jeffries.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby Gene Downey of Selma; two daughters, Tamara Downey of Selma, and Charlene Downey of Covington; a son, Jeffery Downey of Warm Springs; an adopted son, Roman Downey of Clifton Forge; a brother, Charles Jeffries and wife, Dorothy of Covington; four grandchildren, Jeremiah W. Downey, ret. U. S. Army, Justin A. Byrd, Kenneth C. Wykle, and Kimberly Diaz; nine great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend William Bolen officiating.

Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Justin Byrd, Kenneth Wykle, Roman Downey, Matthew Downey, Richie Richardson, and Bobby Conner.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospital Volunteers, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422.
