Longtime Covington Resident Worked At Woodyard With Westvaco

Winifred June Stone Scott Fridley, 96, went to be with her Lord September 29, 2021, at her residence.

Mrs. Fridley was born June 7, 1925, a daughter of the late Lonza and Rayma Tucker Stone.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, R. Russell Scott; her second husband, Berland A. Fridley; one sister, Sarah Brumfield; and two brothers, Marvin Stone and Bob "Doc" Stone.

June retired from Dawn Warehousing as an administrative assistant.

She attended the Grace Brethren Church and Faith Baptist Churches.

She was a graduate of Covington High School and attended Emanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA. Following school, she worked in the woodyard office at WestRock during World War II, joining millions of women in filling positions left vacant during the war.

June loved her family and took great interest in her Irish heritage, studying the genealogy of the Stone and Scott families and passing that on to future generations.

Surviving are her daughters, Jean Wade (Robert) of Covington, and Carol Wolfe (Chuck) of Cloverdale; a grandson, Bryan Wolfe of Cloverdale; a sister, Anita Wright of Payson, Az; special caregivers, Brenda, Christy, Gail, and Dreama, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Monday October 4, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Pastor Roy Carter officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday.

The interment will take place at Alleghany Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends attending the service.

The family suggests memorial donations in Mrs. Fridley's name be made to the Samaritan’s Purse at P. O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000, or a charity of your choice.

The funeral arrangements are being handled by Arritt Funeral Home.
