Mr. Wayne Richard Angell, age 77, of Covington, Virginia, died Sunday, October 17, 2021 after an extended illness at Carrington Place, Botetourt, Virginia.

Mr. Angell was born July 25, 1944 in Hinton, West Virginia, the son of the late Woodrow Angell and Eileen Yancey Angell.

He graduated from Hinton High School, Class of 1962, of which he was very proud. He loved keeping up with all of his classmates and looked forward to the class reunions.

His first job after graduating was delivering milk to local residents from Halstead Dairy. He was then employed by Westvaco for forty-two years in the carbon plant. While at Westvaco, he was the president of the Local 675 union. He took pride in that position, as he was a strong believer in equal rights.

Wayne enjoyed writing music and could take the words of any song and make it a gospel song. He sang with several groups in and around Hinton, WV. He loved his home church, Mt. Olivet in Hinton and attended there as often as he could.

After coming to Covington, he sang with his cousin, Bobby Angell. In the early 2000's and he and his wife, Lola, started the gospel group, The Gospel Mountaineers. He also played with several locals, Jessie Morris, Bill Mack Carter, Gene Whiting and a host of others who are still playing and singing. Mr. Angell taught music lessons to numerous children throughout the years and gifted each one with a brand new trumpet. He was a member of the Weekday Religious Education program in the local school system.

Wayne loved hunting with his brother-in-law, David, and four-wheeling with his friends and especially his grandchildren on the farm in WV.

He and Lola loved to travel many places. Their favorite trip was traveling across the country and visiting many of the western states and Mexico, which was their favorite. Wayne never met a stranger and never said a bad word about anyone. Mr. Angell was a member of First Church of Nazarene as well the Salvation Army Band.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving and faithful wife of 17 years, Lola Holbert Angell; one son, Jeffrey Angell (Cynthia); two daughters, Stephanie Myers (John) and Christi Huffman(Craig); six grandchildren, Phoenix Angell, Justin Myers, Landon Myers, Josh Humphries, and Brooke Dellis and Charles W.
