Obituary for Carl Joseph Reyns Carl Joseph Reyns
Covington Resident Dies At Age 94

Mr. Carl Joseph Reyns, age 94, of Covington, Virginia, died Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at The Colonnades, Charlottesville, VA.

He was the husband of the late Eleanor Tyler Reyns.

Mr. Reyns was born September 24, 1927 in Covington, the son of the late Wilbur Everett Reyns and Alice Rice Reyns.

He was a lifetime resident of this community until his retirement.

Mr. Reyns was a member of Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church. Carl was an active Army reservist for years, working his way up from Corporal to Colonel. He graduated from the Army War College in Carlisle, PA, to make himself eligible for the position of General, if the opportunity ever arose.

He was an avid UVA fan and loved playing golf. Carl enjoyed working in the yard and woodworking, but most of all, loved his model trains.

Mr. Reyns is survived by two daughters, Anne Reyns Stanley of Myrtle Beach, SC and Katherine Reyns Kayser and husband, Joe of Charlottesville; grandchildren, Dr. Reilly R. Kayser of New York, NY, Dr. Dillon W. Kayser and wife, Samantha of Charlottesville, Micah F. Kayser of Charlottesville, Mason M. Kayser of Charlottesville; great granddaughter, Lena Marie Kayser of Charlottesville; a brother, Randolph M. Reyns and wife, Patty of Lynchburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Reyns was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilbur E. Reyns, Jr. and Jack C. Reyns and his sister, Shirley Reyns Hepler.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October, 30, 2021 at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jim Slate officiating.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Reilly Kayser, Dr. Dillon Kayser, Mason Kayser and Steve Minter.

The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Boys Home, Inc., 306 Boys Home Road, Covington, VA 24426 and Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 300, Charlottesville, and VA 22911.

The family wishes to thank his friends and the staff at The Colonnades over the past ten years with special thanks to the memory care team for their care and compassion for our dad.
