Obituary for Ronald Lee Jackson Ronald Lee Jackson
Lexington Resident Had Extensive Scouting Career, Worked In Defense Contracting Industry

Ronald Lee Jackson, 82, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, after a long struggle with Parkinsons disease.

He will be missed by his devoted wife, Elizabeth, and son Alex as well as stepdaughter, Eva Mician, and two grandchildren, Adam (Meagan) and Gina.

He was born June 28, 1939 in Charleston, W.Va., to Robert W. Jackson and Clara B. Canterbury.

Ron had an extensive scouting career which began in Baltimore where he was a cub scout and sea scout. His adult service began in 1974 in the Baltimore Area Council where he was scoutmaster of Troop 325, Glen Burnie, Md., until 1975. He resumed his adult service in 1982 as treasurer and later scoutmaster of Troop 1, Harvard, Nashua Valley Council, where he served until 1985. He became the Scout roundtable commissioner for Metacomet District in 1985 and served with distinction in that capacity. He completed Boy Scout Adult Leader Training and served as an instructor in the Council Rawhide program. He earned his Woodbadge in 1983. He attended Philmont Scout Ranch in 1984 and 1986 as a contingent leader. He returned in 1987 to attend roundtable commissioner training at the Philmont National Training Center. He is a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. He holds the Scouter's Training Award and the Scoutmaster's Key and was a 1987 District Award of Merit Recipient.

He worked in the defense contracting industry for Honeywell and Raytheon. He retired to Rockbridge County, raising Corriedale sheep.

Ron had many passions throughout his lifetime. He held an FCC amateur radio license Amateur Extra class W4PIH for most of his life. As the "leader of the pack" to his Border Collies, his dogs were never far from his side. He was a talented woodworker, completing works of art for his home, and for family and friends. He was an avid reader, preferring sci-fi and history genres. While living in Florida, Ron enjoyed sailing his sailboat.

Ron requested no funeral service.
