Obituary for Connie Nida Redman Back Connie Nida Redman Back
Longtime Educator Also Held Multiple Coaching Positions

Connie Nida Redman Back, 59, of Covington, Virginia passed away peacefully on October 24, 2021, with her family by her side.

She was born March 25, 1962 in Covington, a daughter of Phyllis Harris Nida and the late Bobby Leon Nida.

Connie was a 1980 graduate of Alleghany County High School and graduated from Radford University in 1984 with a B.S. degree in Education.

Connie was a long-time educator, who taught students with special needs in a number of school divisions across Virginia. Her teaching career began in Henrico County, continued at Covington High School, and then Alleghany High School.

After her retirement from public education, she became a teacher at the Boys Home school in Covington. At the time of her passing, she was employed as the Assistant Director of the Boys Home School in Covington. She cared deeply about her students and dedicated her life to touching and enriching the lives of the many students she taught.

A softball player in high school, Connie was also known for her coaching skills. When her daughter Amanda was young, Connie became involved in coaching youth league softball. She also coached Varsity Cheerleading, Varsity Softball and Varsity Volleyball at a several different high schools.

Connie was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher Society, a former member of the Covington Education Association, Alleghany Education Association and the Virginia Education Association. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Alleghany Highlands Community Services board.

Connie was a loving wife and mother and a loyal friend. Most recently she stepped into the role of Memaw and absolutely adored spending time with her twin granddaughters.

In addition to her mother, Connie is survived by her husband, Edward Back III; her daughter, Amanda Redman and husband, Richard Staton of Roanoke; and granddaughters, Adalyn Rhiatt Staton and Matilda Lee Staton.

In accordance with her wishes, her body has been cremated.

There will be no formal services.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 29, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers to make a donation in Connie's name to the Boy Home of Virginia at 414 Boys Home Road, Covington, VA 24426.

Arrangements are being handled by Arritt Funeral Home.
