Longtime Rockbridge Area Bookkeeper WAs Trinity United Methodist Church Member

Elizabeth Frances Shields Rhodenizer, 95, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away November 1, 2021 at the Borden Center at Kendal in Lexington.

She was born on July 12, 1926 in Rockbridge County, the daughter of William and Eleanor Crist Shields.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and beloved stepfather, Leonard Tucker; and by her husband, Albert Rhodenizer.

Libby was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who found tremendous joy in serving her family and community. She worked for the Rockbridge County School Board and later Lexington High School as the bookkeeper and office manager.

She was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lexington, a past officer of the Lexington Lioness Club, BPW Club and a founding member of the LHS Alumni Association as well as a faithful volunteer to the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop.

A lover of music with a beautiful singing voice, Libby sang in her church's choir from childhood into adult years and, even as her dementia progressed, recalled lyrics to each hymn during singalongs at Kendal.

Libby is survived by her three children and their spouses, Gene Rhodenizer (Brenda) of Charlottesville, and Sharon Leech (Will) and Susan Keith (Rusty), both of Lexington. She was a loving grandmother to Trey Rhodenizer, Adam Rhodenizer, Holly Leech Clifton and Jacob Leech, and to her great grandchildren, Carter, Peyton and Harrison Rhodenizer, Piper and McKenzie Rhodenizer, Abigail and Tucker Clifton and Morrison Leech.

Funeral services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kendal Staff Appreciation Fund, 160 Kendal Drive, Lexington, VA 24450.

Our family is grateful for the loving care Libby received from the incredible nursing staff at the Borden Center at Kendal.

Contributions to the Rockbridge SPCA, honoring her love of animals, may be sent to 10 Animal Place, Lexington, VA 24450.
