Lexington Resident Dies At Age 69

Joyce Dianne Zollman of Lexington, Virginia, was a caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world, gaining her wings on November 3, 2021, at age 69.

She was born to Lawrence Henry Zollman and Myrtle May Kelly on May 24, 1952.

Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Zollman; her brother, Marvin Martin; and sister, Claudine Turner.

After graduating from high school, Joyce chased her dreams to become a mother which highlighted her life. She had seven children: Anna Lowery (JT) and Angel Bryant, both of Stuarts Draft, Irvin "Dickie" Reuther of Lexington, Albert "Albie" Hughes (Shanda) of North Carolina, Melissa Hughes of Cumberland, Md., Myra Atkins (Ricky) and Rodney "Jr." Martin, both of Lexington. Joyce is survived by not only all of her children, but also her longtime fiancé, Rodney "Sandy" Martin; mother, Myrtle Kelly; brother, Donnie Zollman; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends.

Joyce loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family. Joyce loved holidays and catering big family meals, especially at Christmas. Her favorite game to play was "Secret Santa." She loved spending time with her grandchildren and spoiling them. She was skilled at making flower arrangements for family weddings and other celebrations. Joyce loved to play cards and complete creative projects for family and filled her home with laughter. Joyce surpassed medical diagnosis and fought long to stay on this Earth to prove everyone else wrong. She ended her battle peacefully.

A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, November 6 at the Ben Salem Presbyterian Church with Brother Dorsey Hostetter officiating. A reception will immediately follow at Sam Houston Ruritan Club, 1260 Valley Pike Road, Lexington.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
