Obituary for Evelyn Irene Canterbury Evelyn Irene Canterbury
White Sulphur Springs Resident Dies At Age 82

Evelyn Irene Canterbury, 82, of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, was born November 23, 1938 and passed away suddenly during the early morning hours of Saturday, November 13, 2021.

She was the daughter of Homer Lewis Canterbury and Mary Irene (McDowell) Canterbury, who both preceded her in death. Her brother, Emory Canterbury of Salt Sulphur Springs and stepbrother, Kenneth Canterbury of Hollywood, WV, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her son, Scott Andrew "Bones" Canterbury of White Sulphur Springs and numerous nieces and nephews.

Evelyn graduated fourth in her class of forty-five from Union High School in 1957. She attended the Temple Business School in 1962. Afterward, she moved to Washington D.C. where she worked as a mail clerk for the Federal Bureau of Investigations. She then trained to be in the hospitality industry, working for Statler Hilton Hotel in Arlington before returning to the Greenbrier Valley upon the birth of her son. She worked for the Ronceverte Printing Company in 1972 before working at The Greenbrier in the accounting department until 1984.

She enjoyed reading. She loved reading mysteries and westerns.

Services will be Thursday, November 18th at Wallace and Wallace in White Sulphur Springs. The family will greet friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen Baldwin officiating. She will be laid to rest along side her parents at Gates Cemetery outside of Gap Mills in Monroe County.
