Ruth Simmons Wright, 93, of Clifton Forge, Virginia, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2021.

She was born March 11, 1928 in Eagle Rock, Virginia, daughter of the late Selma Warner and Lucy Deisher Simmons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. "Bud" Wright in 2000; brothers, J.W. "Bill" Simmons and wife, Myrtie and Frank D. Simmons and wife, Meno; brothers-in-law, Don Painter, Ray Wright, Wayne Wright and Gary Showalter; sister-in-law, Alma Wright, nephews, Donald Wright and Mark Painter.

Ruth was a lifelong member of the Eagle Rock Baptist Church.

She retired as an elementary school teacher in 1987 with 31 years of service, having taught in Eagle Rock and Clifton Forge schools. She loved watching and feeding her squirrels and birds, watching the Atlanta Braves and Virginia Cavaliers and bowling.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey L. "Jeff" Wright and wife, Cindy; grandson, Eric Wright; granddaughter, Allison W. Clark and husband, Jonathan; very special great grandsons, Abel and Axton; brother-in-law, Ronald Wright; sisters-in-law, Aileen Painter, Janice Wright and Barbara Showalter; nieces and nephews, Mike Simmons, Pam Tinsley, Marcy and Nathan Garrity, Gene Painter, Mona Painter, David Simmons, Ellen Morris, Randy and Lisa Wright, Cindy and Scott Metheny, Erin and Casey Nicely, Susanne Wright, Amy Wright and Paul Showalter; special friends, Carl and Becky Nichols, Sharon Campbell, Sharon Clark, Sue Lane, David and Donna Simpson and Ronnie and Kay Irvine.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Eagle Rock Baptist Church with Pastor Billy Ronk officiating. Burial will follow in the Eagle Rock Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, November 26, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
