Sweet Springs Baptist Church Member Dies At Age 84

Mrs. Virginia Joyce Harmon, age 84, of Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, December 11, 2021 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor.

She was the wife of Jack Lanier Harmon whom she was married to for sixty-two years.

Mrs. Harmon was born September 29, 1937 in Charleston, WV, the daughter of the late Foy McMillan and Bertha Fleming McMillan.

A resident of this community since 1965, she was a homemaker who was a great cook and truly enjoyed taking great care of her family. Virginia loved to draw, working in her flower gardens and doing arts and crafts.

Mrs. Harmon was a member of Sweet Springs Baptist Church. A wonderful singer, Virginia enjoyed singing at both her home and at her church.

In addition to her husband, Jack, Mrs. Harmon is survived by her daughter, Tracie Cochran and husband, Charlie of Sweet Chalybeate; a granddaughter, Hollie Smith and husband, Brandon of Roanoke; a great grandson, Michael Smith; a grandson, Joseph A. Cochran; a brother, Bob McMillan and wife, Patsy of Kinston, NC; two sisters, Joanne Hart and husband, Pat of Saint Albans, WV and Linda Cook and husband, Pete of Sweet Chalybeate; a number of nieces and nephews including special niece, Linda Simmons and husband, Rob of Covington; and the dog she dearly loved, Max.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harmon was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

A funeral service will be conducted at noon on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Sweet Chalybeate Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Cochran, Michael Smith, Ricky Lucas, Jeff Cook, Robert Cook, John Cook and Spencer Cook The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at Loving Funeral Home.
