Retired Old Stacks Restaurant Owner Was Longdale United Methodist Church Member

Addie Mays Linkswiler Vance, 94, of 6505 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Highland House, Clifton Forge.

She was born at Longdale Station, Alleghany County on June 9, 1927, a daughter of the late Owen S. and Daisy Higgins Mays.

Addie was the retired owner/operator of the Old Stacks Restaurant.

She was an active member of Longdale United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school to the Adult Class for over 30 years. She was a lay leader of the church, former member of the church choir, member of the Board and past Treasurer of the United Methodist Women of the church.

Addie was a former volunteer with Mountain Regional Hospice and served on the local election board. She was affectionately known as "Chubby" by her grandchildren. She loved all children and loved to laugh and have a good time with all of them.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Carlous Linkswiler and her second husband, Claude Vance; by a sister, Susie Mays; brothers, Sidney Mays and James G. Mays; sons-in-law, Jerry Garrett and Joe Hill and a foster grandson, Lawrence Newcomb.

She is survived by three daughters, Roberta L. Garrett of Stuarts Draft, Brenda L. Newcomb and husband, Bobby of Clifton Forge and Linda L. Hill of Clifton Forge; a son, Greg Linkswiler and wife, Freda of Clifton Forge; eight grandchildren, Amy Irvine and husband, Glenn, Ryan Garrett, Jason Linkswiler and wife, Angie, Karie Linkswiler Gregory and husband, Scott, Meagan Seale and husband, Matt, Brad Newcomb and wife, Cindy, Brett Thompson and Zachary Garrett; 11 Great Grandchildren; three great, great granchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. Addie was also survived by many special friends who loved her and were like family to her.

A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with Rev. Lester Kennedy and Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in the Central Advent Christian Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Jason Linkswiler, Ryan Garrett, Zach Garrett, Brad Newcomb, Brett Thompson and Joey Loughlin. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Longdale United Methodist Church.
