Obituary for James Alexander Mahood Sr. James Alexander Mahood Sr.
Fairfield Native Was Former Mick Or Mack Employee, Lexington Baptist Church Member

James Alexander Mahood Sr., 88, of Lexington, Virginia, died Monday, December 13, 2021 at his home.

Born July 8, 1933 in Fairfield, he was a son of the late Alexander Fox Mahood and Elizabeth Susan Gladwell Mahood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Mahood.

He was a devoted husband and father to his family.

James served in the Army in Germany. A humble man, he was always willing to sacrifice for those that were in need.

Most recognize his familiar face known by many in the Rockbridge area, especially those who worked with him over the years at Mick or Mack and Food Lion. He never knew a stranger and made it a point to speak with everyone that came through those doors.

He enjoyed spending time with his family sharing stories and pictures. Loving to eat, he was frequently found sharing a meal with his best friend Aubrey Manspile at several of the local restaurants. He was a long-time member of Lexington Baptist Church.

We are certainly the better for having such a gentle and kind man in all our lives. He will be remembered and missed by many.

Surviving are his children, James Alexander Mahood Jr. (Tina), Susan Clark (Darryl), Lisa Bowles (Norman), Todd Mahood (Susan), and Amanda Deaner (Chris); 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 16 at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Michael Saunders officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Lexington Baptist Church, 75 Old Farm Road, Lexington, VA 24450 or Meals on Wheels.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
