Obituary for Betty Mayo Hutcherson Betty Mayo Hutcherson
Glasgow Native Dies At Age 86

Betty Mayo Hutcherson, 86, of Henrico County, Virginia, passed through the gates of Heaven on Sunday, November 14, 2021.

She was born in Glasgow on February 10, 1935 and was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Virginia Mayo; and sister, Frances Kessinger.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, S.N. "Red" Hutcherson; a son, Robert (Karen) of Cape Coral, Fla.; a daughter, Karen Hutcherson Shannon (William) of Glen Allen; grandchildren, Kathryn, Emily, Dina (Byard) and Oleg; and a great-grandson, Will.

Betty attended Natural Bridge High School, where she was a member of the basketball and softball teams (earning two scholarship offers), as well as 1953 class salutatorian.

After marriage in 1957, Betty and Red owned and operated Tiny Town Cottages and Restaurant in Natural Bridge (Pink Cadillac) before relocating to Richmond.

After raising two children, they moved to Cape Coral, Fla., in 1980, where Betty enjoyed co-ed softball, league bowling, bocce ball and relaxing around the pool. Betty and Red spent almost 40 years traveling the country, where she was the loyal score keeper for his travel softball team, before retuning to Richmond in 2020.

Betty loved her family dearly and she will be lovingly remembered by her husband and children. She will also be sorely missed by her grandchildren and great-grandson.
