Obituary for Marvin Jim (Jimmy) Powell Marvin Jim (Jimmy) Powell
Natural Bridge Station Resident Worked With Floyd S. Kay, Natural Bridge Elementary School

Marvin Jim (Jimmy) Powell, 87, of Natural Bridge Station, Virginia, passed away Friday, January 14, 2022 at his home.

Born April 15, 1934, he was the son of Charlie Price Powell and Maggie Austin Powell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Barbara Viola Watkins; daughter, Sharon Marie; and five brothers and five sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen; son, Marvin (Amy); and daughter, Tracy (John); four grandchildren, Staci (Ron), Tiffany, Justin (Les), and Jessica; five great-grandchildren, Raegan, Casadee, Khloe, Clayton and Conner; and lots of special nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He served in the Army and held many jobs throughout the years, including James Lees and Bartlett Tree Service, but before retirement he worked in facility maintenance at Floyd S. Kay and then Natural Bridge Elementary School, touching the lives of many kids.

Known to many as "Uncle Jimmy," he enjoyed spending his time outside hunting, fishing, camping, walking in the woods, and in later years just sitting on the front porch. He loved working on cars and referred to himself as a "Shade Tree Mechanic."

He enjoyed taking a drive to get in a "little windshield time," sometimes just to take "a loop around the horn," as he called it. He was always happy, helpful, and had lots of funny stories to tell and will be greatly missed.

He was laid to rest in the Johnson Family Cemetery, surrounded by family and friends.

The family would like to thank Hospice and the caregivers that took care of him during his final days. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
