Obituary for Violet Dolores Honaker Violet Dolores Honaker
Lewisburg Resident Was "Nanny" To Many Local Children

Violet Dolores Honaker, 80, also affectionately known as Nanny, of Lewisburg, West Virginia, departed this life on January 17, 2022.

She was born July 25, 1941 in Monroe County, WV.

She was the daughter of the late John Walker and Katherine Hall.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Michael Honaker; brothers, Robert Hall, David Hall, Darrell Hall, and Lonnie Hall; and sisters, Brenda Brewer, Isabelle Knepper, Loretta Surgeon, Gertrude Toothman, and Rebecca Jackson.

She is survived by her daughter, Renee Spears (Tony) of Hinton, WV; two sons, Don Honaker (Rhonda) of Dublin, VA, and Mike Honaker (Melissa) of Lewisburg, WV; as well as granddaughters, Autumn Smith (Evan) of Teays Valley, WV, Amber Ware (Ben) of Teays Valley, WV, and Aeyla Spears (Jim) of Bassett, VA, Maddison Honaker of Pulaski, VA; and grandsons, Danial Honaker of Roanoke, VA, Gabriel Honaker of Roanoke, VA, Cameron Honaker of Radford, VA, and Matthias Honaker of Pulaski, VA. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Gwyneth Smith (10), Bronwen Smith (3), Ivy Ware (8), and Lucy "Lemon" Ware (7).

Along with her love for God and her family, Violet was also the loving and nurturing "Nanny" of a significant number of children that she cared for in her home in Lewisburg, all of whom she loved like her own. Violet loved all children, and she glowed with pride when she spoke of all the precious children that made their home in her home. She especially took great care in teaching children about the love of God, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and how to pray.

When "Nanny" went to be with her Savior, the world lost a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, nanny and friend. While she may have lacked formal education, Violet was a wealth of knowledge and thoughtful advice that always brought a sense of peace and perspective to every situation. She had an amazing ability to find and articulate the "silver lining" in every circumstance and never failed to love unconditionally without the slightest hint of judgment. While her listening ears and compassionate guidance was always helpful, it seemed to always resonate best over a cup of hot coffee or while she stood in her kitchen cooking a signature meal or baking one of her famous cakes or pies.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Chapel in Lewisburg, WV, with Reverend Mike Honaker officiating. Visitation at the funeral home will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

A private burial will follow at New Lebanon Cemetery.
