Obituary for Horton Wayne (Wayne) Miller Horton Wayne (Wayne) Miller
Covington Resident Dies At Age 78

Horton Wayne (Wayne) Miller, age 78, of Brentwood in Covington, Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

He passed away peacefully at Lewis Gale Hospital – Alleghany in Low Moor.

Wayne was the loving husband of Donna Dressler Miller whom he married 48 years ago. Marrying Donna made him the instant father of five children all of whom at the time were under the age of seven. He loved his "readymade family".

Wayne was born October 3, 1943, in Wytheville, Virginia, the only child of the late Colonel Horton and Vivian Peyton Smith Miller.

He had been a resident of Alleghany County since 1975. Prior to coming to Alleghany County, he was employed as a machinist at Norfolk and Western Railway in Roanoke, Virginia. After coming to Alleghany County, he served under Sheriff Maxwell Swoope as Animal Control Officer and later he operated Electrolux Sales and Service in Covington and Radford, Virginia.

Wayne loved animals and was not one to go very long without having a dog in his life. Molly Ann was his ever-constant pet companion and made his last days very enjoyable. One of Wayne’s passions was cars; he enjoyed talking about the history of all makes and models. He gained a great amount of joy in detailing his cars and keeping them shining. Another of Wayne's passions was storytelling. He loved to relate stories of his life's adventures and would talk for hours in animated detail to anyone who would sit a while to listen. One special family friend who would come to the house and listen as Wayne regaled his many adventures and misadventures was Shelia Hyler; the family is grateful for her friendship.

Wayne had a special place in his heart for his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He knew there were two more great-grandchildren on the way and was so excited about their arrival.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Elaine Kennedy; two grandchildren, Cory Arron Walters, and Cassie Amber Harrison; two great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Elaine Kennedy and Taleighannah Marie Kennedy.

In addition to his wife, Donna, Wayne is survived by three daughters, Kathlene Paige Downey (James "Ernie") Covington, Deborah Ann Darby (Dave) L'Anse, Michigan; Sandra Lynn Massey (Chris) Maxwelton, WV; one son, Michael Jay Kennedy, and wife, Sonya of Troy, Missouri.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2022 from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Pat McPeek officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at Loving Funeral Home.
