Hot Springs Resident Was Retired Crane Operator, Burns Auto Repair Owner, Calvary Baptist Church Member

Ira Thomas Burns, age 79, of 175 Burns Lane, Hot Springs, Virginia died Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at his residence.

He was born September 21, 1942 in Natural Well, Virginia to the late Roy Shelton and Edna Grace Simmons Burns.

He was a crane operator for Detroit Salt Company, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Millboro.

Tommy was a beloved dad and friend who always had a story to tell. He loved to travel on his motorcycle and hunt and play guitar with his family and friends.

He founded Burns Auto Repair of Hot Springs, Virginia, now owned and operated by Shelton and Roy Burns.

Tommy was a legend to his family and friends and will be missed by all. We will see you in Heaven dad, waiting for a song.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy Burns, Harry Burns, and Stuart Burns, and a sister, Nancy Burns.

He is survived by three daughters, Teresa McClellan and husband, Roger of Indiana, Rachel Wust and husband, Jonathan of Michigan, and Nancy Crummett and husband, Roy of Hot Springs; four step daughters, Donna Hepler and husband, Mark, Wilma Stogdale and husband, George, Lynorra Shaver and husband, T. J., all of Hot Springs, and Natasha Barron and husband, Chris of Covington; two sons, Shelton Burns and wife, Valerie of Millboro, and Roy Burns and wife, Sarah of Hot Springs; a step son, Larry Mace and wife, Michelle of Indiana; a brother, David N. Chestnut of Hot Springs; sixteen grandchildren and ten step grandchildren, Jessica, Elyse, Calvin, Jaqelynn, Steven, Cheyaen, Jeremy, Kenzie, Jacob, Zach, Austin, Noah, Kyle, Haley, Hannah, Monroe, Walter, Asher, Katelynn, Pathen, Allison, Cheyenne, Cody, Gracie, Faith, and Ruby; fourteen great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Carolyn Coburn.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Pastor Blake Reese officiating. Interment will follow in Bratton Cemetery, Millboro.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 23rd, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Doris L. Via Cancer Fund, P. O. Box 174, Hot Springs, VA 24445.
