Obituary for Richard (Tommy) Thomas King Richard (Tommy) Thomas King
Covington Native Dies In Chesterfield At Age 81

Richard (Tommy) Thomas King, 81, of Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022.

Born in Covington, Virginia, he was the son of the late Theodore and Mary Louise Seay King.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie King-Compton.

Mr. King was a United States Marine Corps veteran. Following his discharge from the Marines, Tommy went on to retire from DuPont and ICI after many years of dedicated service.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and was also a gun collector and gunsmith. After retiring from ICI he worked for Dance's Sporting Goods and Lowes.

Mr. King was a member of The Heights Baptist Church in Colonial Heights.

He will be remembered by his family and friends as a man who did things his way.

Tommy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis King; one son, Dr. Christopher Todd King and wife, Chandra; three grandchildren, Claudia King, Grayson King and Alexa Rose; two sisters, Mary Sue Carper and husband, Charles and Gail Forbes and husband, Sam; two brothers, Teddy and James King and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA.

The family is being served by the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or to the Wounded Warrior Project in memory of Richard T. King.
