Eagle Rock Resident Was Retired Maintenance Worker With Alleghany County

Phillip Ray Fridley, age 72, of 12 Cliffwood Drive, Eagle Rock, Virginia died Friday, January 21, 2022 at his residence.

He was born September 1, 1949 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late James Tavender Fridley, Sr., and Lillian Kitt Fridley.

He was a retired maintenance worker for Alleghany County Public Works and was a member of Iron Gate Baptist Church.

He loved watching his grandson play sports, loved hunting, cutting firewood, cutting grass and keeping his home's landscape looking sharp.

Phillip was well known in the McKinney Hollow Road area for always having a friendly wave and was also known for wanting to help people.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Kirk; and two brothers, J. T. Fridley and Willie Fridley.

He is survived by two daughters, Kristal Maloney and fiancé, Billy Lipes of Covington, and Ashli Kemo and husband, Matt of Banner Elk, NC; six sisters, Judy Craft of Clifton Forge, Vickie DePriest of Eagle Rock, Carolyn Susie Deacon of Eagle Rock, Darlene Brewster of Clifton Forge, Jewel Brewster of Covington, and Jean Dawson of Covington; three brothers, Gordon Fridley of Clifton Forge, Paul Fridley of Covington, and Robert Fridley of Covington; two grandchildren, Justice Maloney and Covin Kemo; a niece, Kelly Campbell and nephew, Waylon Campbell; the mother of his children, Linda Fridley Thomas of Lewisburg, WV; and special friends, Billy Lipes, Richard Kitt, Roger Kirk, Elizabeth Dowdy, and Bessie Johnson.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Shane Hiner and Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until time of service on Thursday.
