Obituary for Harold L. (Buddy) Petty Harold L. (Buddy) Petty
Goshen Resident Was Longtime Heavy Equipment Operator

Harold L. (Buddy) Petty died on February 5, 2022 at his home on Jym Springs Farm in Goshen, Virginia, with his canine companion, Sassy, by his side.

Buddy was a kind, patient man who was beloved by all who knew him. He had a strong work ethic, working most of his life as a heavy equipment operator. In fact, Buddy came out of "retirement" in his mid-seventies to operate a dozer, and just a few weeks before his death he cleared his driveway of snow with his old International tractor!

Buddy loved farming, nature, being in the country, music, gardening, making homemade wine, good food and his daily beer.

Buddy was preceded in death by his partner, Mae Lyle. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. Buddy leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and friends who will dearly miss him.

The family would like to extend appreciation to Elizabeth Kosmas, NP, who Buddy was very fond of, and who cared for him until his death. A special thank you to his caregivers, Ashley Vest and LeAlice Hall, Meals on Wheels volunteers, as well as to Rockbridge Area Hospice - Kayla, Damien, Lisa and Susie. Finally, many thanks to his "Brattons Run Friends" who delivered meals, ran errands, helped take him to appointments and stopped by for visits. Thank you for helping us manage his care so he could die at home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, Meals on Wheels or an animal rescue organization of your choice.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

May we all learn to live as peaceful, humble, hardworking and kind life as Buddy.
