Jeanne Ann Smith Carter, age 88, of 1207 Staunton Street, Selma, Virginia died Saturday, February 19, 2022 at the Alleghany Health and Rehabilitation Center, Clifton Forge.

She was born September 23, 1933 in Montgomery, West Virginia to the late Rupert Smith and Bess Woolwine Smith.

She was a retired registered nurse for over 40 years at Alleghany Regional Hospital.

Jeanne Ann was a member of the Episcopal Church of Clifton Forge.

She enjoyed cooking, cleaning, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and most of all nursing and taking care of others.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Daniel Lee Carter II; and a grandson, William Alexander Carter.

She is survived by a son, Daniel "Danny" Carter III of Selma; two grandchildren, Raeann Nicole Carter and Daniel Lee Carter IV; a number of nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Barbara Tucker, Jeanne Ann Smith, and Rita Totten.

In keeping with her wishes, her body will be cremated.

Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
