Obituary for Carl Edison Nichols, Sr. Carl Edison Nichols, Sr.
Westvaco Retiree Was Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Member

Carl Edison Nichols, Sr., of Covington, Virginia, died March 5, 2022 in The Woodlands Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clifton Forge, Virginia at the age of 79.

Carl was born December 11 ,1942 in Clay County, WV to the late George and Mamie Nichols.

He moved to Covington, Virginia, where he worked and retired from Westvaco after 42 years of service.

Carl was a member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church and dearly loved his church family.

Most of all, Carl loved his wife of 56 years, Becky, and their family.

Hosting summer cookouts and Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations for his entire family filled with good food, football, corn hole, party games and lots of love and laughs were always a priority to him.

In recent years, the grandchildren as well as many others who loved him began to refer to him as "Pops." Our Pops will be remembered for his loyalty to his family, his welcoming spirit, and his loving and generous soul, along with his many other wonderful attributes.

Carl is survived by his wife, Becky Nichols of Covington, VA; two sons, Carl (Holly) Nichols, Jr. of Unison, VA and Stuart (Lisa) Nichols of Fort Mill, SC; and four grandchildren, Dale Nichols of Middleburg, VA, Carrie Nichols of Galway, Ireland, Ella Nichols of Fort Mill, SC, and Tad Nichols of Fort Mill, SC.

Carl loved his extended family as well and was a beloved uncle to Marty (Joanne) Forbes, Kristy (Mike) Morgan, Jeff Nichols, and Tracey (Jeremy) Thompson and great uncle to Meghan (Chris) Cugler, Mikayla Morgan, Autumn Morgan, Ethan Forbes, Luke Thompson, Logan Thompson and Addeline Thompson.

A visitation will be held from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Loving Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. with a graveside service immediately following at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
