Covington Resident Was Retired C&O Railroad Employee, Concerned Christian Baptist Church Member

Mary Elois Wallace Heighter, age 79, of 232 South Marion Ave., Covington, Virginia died Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Friendship Manor North in Roanoke, VA.

She was born January 16, 1943 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Johnnie Albert and Mary Ossia Randolph Wallace.

She was a retired laborer for the C & O Railroad and a member of the Concerned Christian Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee Heighter, Jr.; a daughter, Ann Heighter; and a granddaughter, Kara Berry.

She is survived by her children, Jerome Wallace (Louise), Sherry Heighter, Debra Heighter, Tracy Berry (Thomas Bratton), Richard L. Heighter III ( Stephanie), Marus Leftwich (Clay); sisters, Drema Halsey(Levi), Doris Alexander (Ralph), Helen Perry, and Rose Wallace; a brother, Luther Albert Wallace (Naomi); grandchildren, Andre Booker, Keith Booker, Pierre Wallace, Chandra Heighter, Darrick Davis, Stacey Heighter, Jalisha Heighter, Aaron Heighter, Alesha Heighter, Keith Berry, Jalin Heighter, Midajah Heighter, and Raven Heighter; great grandchildren, DeAndre Heighter, Ja'Kara Heighter, Brooklyn Heighter, and Pierre Wallace, Jr.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Concerned Christian Baptist Church, Covington, with Reverend William Hickman officiating. Interment will follow in Red Hill Cemetery, Clifton Forge. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Concerned Christian Baptist Church.
