Obituary for Irene Arbogast Hefner Irene Arbogast Hefner
Former Mill Gap Resident Dies At Age 82

Irene (Arbogast) Hefner, 82, of Staunton, Virginia, and formerly of Mill Gap passed away, Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at the home of her son.

She was born in Highland County on September 7, 1939, a daughter of the late Robert Samuel and Alice M. (Puffenbarger) Arbogast.

On June 20, 1959 she married the late James Lee Hefner.

Mrs. Hefner was a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church, as well as the Beulah Presbyterian Women.

A caring person, she demonstrated a selfless dedication to others throughout her life and will be remembered as an extraordinary cook, who never let people go away hungry. Above all, she was a proud, devoted and loving mother.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Myra McLynn.

She is survived by her son, Jeff Hefner of Staunton; brothers, Harold W. Arbogast of Blue Grass and Robert S. Arbogast Jr. of Craigsville; nieces, Kathy Sweet, Melanie Gotsis, Eileen Browning, Amy Shifflett and Sammi Marple; as well as nephews, Mark McLynn, Tim McLynn and John Robert Arbogast.

A private family memorial service will be held in Green Hill Cemetery with Rev. Richard "Rick" Hill officiating.

The Obaugh Funeral Home, McDowell, Virginia, is handling the arrangements.
