Covington Homemaker Was Temple Baptist Church Member

Dormal Powell Jackson, 95, of Clearview Estates in Covington, Virginia departed this life at The Springs Nursing Home in Hot Springs, Virginia on the morning of April 1, 2022 after a five-month stay.

Dormal was born in Dawes, West Virginia on October 30, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Albert G. and Fannie Drake Powell.

Dormal was a graduate of East Bank High School in WV and started working at the age of 15 and held various jobs throughout her life, but the most important was being a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker.

Dormal was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Covington, and was an active member of the Clifton Forge Anata Guild until her health declined.

Dormal now joins her parents and her cherished husband, Jack D. Jackson, deceased in 1991, and two daughters, Sherry J. Stone, deceased in January 2000, and Diana J. Trettin, deceased in October 2007. Dormal also was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Stone.

Dormal leaves to cherish her memory her daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Larry Dew of Eagle Rock; a son, Steven Jackson and daughter-in-law, Fran Jackson of Sparks, NV, and former sons-in-law, John Stone of Covington and Dan Trettin of Atlanta, GA. Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Kimberly S. Scott and husband, Brent of Warrenton, Erin Reynolds and husband, Marc of Roanoke, Christina S. Carr and Brandon Campbell of Fincastle, Celia D. Meade and Bryan Lewis of Blue Ridge, and Amanda S. Wooten and husband, JJ of Delaplane, John Hamilton Stone of Bath County, David Trettin and wife, Andrea of Atlanta, GA, and Chris Trettin of Kentucky; and a number of great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Bill Hartsfield and Mrs. Donna Nicely officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be selected from friends and family attending the service. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, C/O Jim Eller, 1201 Crestwood Avenue, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
