Clifton Forge Resident Was Retired CSX Machinist

John Preston Booze III, age 78, of 224 West Ridgeway Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Monday, April 4, 2022 at his residence.

He was born December 11, 1943 in Lexington, Virginia to the late John Preston Booze, Jr. and Mary Ellen Kern Booze.

He was a retired machinist for CSX Transportation.

John was very active serving the community in various organizations. He was a lifetime member and Quartermaster139 of the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad, and received several awards over the years. He also served with Republic Ambulance Service, the Iron Gate Fire Department, Meals on Wheels, and was a member of the Covington Moose Lodge and the National Rifle Association.

He followed NASCAR, especially the careers of Dale Earnhardt and Kyle Petty, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, construction, gunsmithing, and buying lottery tickets. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Steven William Booze and Aubrey Gene Booze, and three sisters, Peggy Booze Powell, Barry Booze Canode, and Robbie Booze Patterson.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Givens Booze of Clifton Forge; two daughters, Teresa Lynn Smith and husband, Mark of Lexington and Christy Jeffries and husband, Bill of Clifton Forge; three sons, Michael Anthony Booze and wife, Dollie of Covington, Paul Booze and wife, Lisa of Iron Gate, and Kevin Booze and wife, Janelle of Alleghany County; three sisters, Nancy Simmons and husband, Charles "Boopie" Simmons of Westgate, Janice Mundy and husband, Donnie of South Boston, and June Tucker of Covington; grandchildren, Heather Hicks, Paul Booze, Jr., Joey Stull, Adam Sweet, Johnathon Smith, Megan Smith, Mikayla Booze, Gabriel Booze, Preston Booze, Brooklyn Booze, Miky Mays, and Alex Mays; great grandchildren, Aidyn Peters, Luka Booze, Tyson Kimberlin, Savanna Hicks, Charles "Jacob" Loughlin, and Dalton Loughlin; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad, 1610 Hickory Ave., Clifton Forge with Mr. Chris Fisher and Mr. Kevin Booze officiating.

Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, will be handling arrangements.
