Obituary for Myrtle M. Zollman Kelly Myrtle M. Zollman Kelly
Longtime Southern Inn Restaurant Cook Was Also Longtime Foster Mother

Myrtle M. Zollman Kelly, 90, passed away on March 24, 2022.

She was born May 31, 1931 in Rockbridge County, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver "Ollie" and Allie Hicks Martin; her first husband, Lawrence Henry Zollman; her second husband, Wiley Otis Kelly; her son, Marvin E. Martin; her daughter, Claudine Z. Turner; her daughter, Joyce D. Zollman; and 13 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by one son, Donnie W. Zollman; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, as well as great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Myrtle lived a long and prosperous life. She was a foster mother for the Department of Social Services in Rockbridge County for approximately 40 years and raised many children as if they were her own.

She loved to cook and was excellent at doing this as well having worked at the Southern Inn Restaurant in Lexington for over 30 years, making their homemade breads and salads. She also worked at the Keydet General on Route 60 before retiring.

Myrtle loved singing, gardening, and canning and family get-togethers. She loved her family and would do anything for them day or night. She was the rock, foundation if you will, of the family - a hero who molded her family piece by piece throughout the years.

A celebration of life will be held on May 14 at 2 p.m. at Oxford Presbyterian Church. A dinner will follow in the fellowship hall there. If you have any questions, please contact Angel at angeladawn540@gmail.com.
