Kenneth Craig Burks, 62, of Brownsburg, Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 30, 2022 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C., after a two-year long battle with cancer.
Kenny was born on October 30, 1959, the son of the late Josiah and Mildred Burks of Charlottesville.
Kenny leaves behind his wife, Pamela of 37 years, and a son, Jordan (girlfriend Bailee) of Richmond; a sister, Teresa Wimmer (Donny); a very special aunt, Dorothy Peregoy (Roy); a brother-in-law, Michael Sandridge (Julie); a mother-in-law, Helen Sandridge; three nephews, Adam Sandridge (Marybeth), Brian Sandridge (Whitney), and Kris Wimmer (Leah); and three very special great-nephews, Quinn, Owen, and Henry; and one niece, Madalyn.
Kenny retired from CSX Transportation where he had been a locomotive engineer for 33 years. During his railroad career, he had the honor of transporting senators and congressmen from Washington, D.C. to the Greenbrier in West Virginia.
Kenny grew up in a stock car racing family and drove for his father on dirt and asphalt tracts in Virginia. He later drove in the Nascar Busch Grand National series until 1989.
Kenny served as an elder at New Providence Presbyterian Church and was a substitute speaker on several occasions in the pulpit. He was a man of strong faith and always attempted to lead others to Christ.
Kenny was an avid UVA fan and loved attending football and basketball games. His greatest love other than his wife, son and family were his two Saint Bernards, Teddy and Huck.
The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Rob Marsh for the wonderful care given to Kenny. He has been more than a doctor to our family during this extremely difficult time.
A graveside service to celebrate his life will be conducted at New Providence Presbyterian Church on Thursday, May 5 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Loren Mitchell and Rev. Lester Kennedy officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kenny's honor to the new playground fund at New Providence Presbyterian Church, 1208 New Providence Road, Raphine, VA 24472.
