Obituary for David Howard Carroll, Sr. David Howard Carroll, Sr.
Millboro Resident Was Retired CSX Engineer, Avid Bluegrass Musician

David Howard Carroll, Sr., age 79, of 159 Seldom Seen Holler, Millboro, Virginia died Sunday, May 15, 2022 at his residence.

David was born July 13, 1942 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Howard Lupton and Jessie Pearl Nicely Carroll.

He served in the United States Air Force, was a retired Engineer for CSX Transportation, and attended Horeb Baptist Church.

His greatest love was his wife and family. He was well known as an avid bluegrass musician, singer, and songwriter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Marie Carroll; a brother, Randy Carroll; and a great grandson, Barrett Caldwell.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Aldridge Carroll of Millboro; children, Selena and Ronnie Liptrap of Millboro, David, Jr. and Missy Carroll of Bedford County, Lisa and Buster Craft of Clifton Forge, Jamie and Jessica Carroll of Buena Vista, and Jennifer and Dana Whorley of Eagle Rock; a sister, Barbara Black and a brother, Kenny Carroll and wife, Alice, all of Clifton Forge; grandchildren, Dustin Caldwell and wife, Amanda, Madison Carroll, Noah Carroll, Johnny Fortescue, Josh Caldwell and wife, Natalie, Harmony Carroll, Whitney Lacks and wife, Meghan, Andrew Lacks and wife, Nina, Tanner Lacks and wife, Skylynn, Conner Simpson, Olivia Simpson, Laura Arends, and Joseph Craft; great grandchildren, Lillianna, Kenyah, Karson, Korbin, Milleigh, Magnolia, Clementine, Olive, and Madelyn; and a number of nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Steven Byer and wife, LeeAnn; great grandchildren, Lillianna, Kenyah, Karson, Korbin, Milleigh, Magnolia, Clementine, Olive, and Madelyn; and a number of nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Steven Byer and wife, LeeAnn.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Dallas Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in Horeb Baptist Cemetery, Millboro. Pallbearers will be Ricky McCoy, Darrell Campbell, Jason Pauley, Corey Jeffries, Chase Coffey, Buster Craft, and Dorsey Hostetter.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Horeb Baptist Church, 5742 Cowpasture River Highway, Millboro, VA 24460.
