Obituary for Roger Dale Lilly Roger Dale Lilly
Vietnam Veteran Was MeadWestvaco Retiree

Roger Dale Lilly, 78, of 5319 Frontier Lane, Covington, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at his residence.

Mr. Lilly was born on May 26, 1944 in Hinton, WV, a son of the late Ernest Russell and Elsie Faye Evans Lilly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Susie Lilly; a brother, Alvin Lilly; and a brother-in-law, Clifford Lilly.

He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War as a Sergeant.

He retired after 39 years from MeadWestvaco as a pipefitter.

He attended New Hope Baptist Church and was a member of the Covington Paper Workers Union Local 675.

He enjoyed country music; being at anything his children or grandchildren were involved in. He was a board member and the grounds chairman of the Lilly Reunion Association. He was a master story teller and could fix anything or tell you exactly how to do so.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Virginia "Ginger" Walker Lilly of Covington; three sons and daughters-in-law, John Joseph Lilly and Margie of Severn, MD, William Christopher Lilly and Karen of Shenandoah, and Wesley Garfield Walker Lilly and Jean Ann of White Sulphur Springs, WV; eight grandchildren, Hannah Paige Lilly and fiancé, Anthony Borrero of Linden, Austin Walker Lilly of Severn, MD, Grace Irene Lilly and fiancé, Parker Lawhon of Shenandoah, Andrew Joseph David Lilly and fiancé, Madison Skievaski of Shenandoah, Jason Andrew Lilly of Severn, MD, Jacelyn Emiley Lilly, Madelyn Jean Ann Lilly, and Jacob Conner Lilly, all of White Sulphur Springs, WV; great grandson, Rowan Amaris Lilly of Linden; five brothers and sisters, Gary Lilly and Marilyn of Haslett, MI, Joyce Louise Stricker of Camp Hill, PA, David Lilly and Joyce of Charlotte, MI, Brenda Lilly and Don of Winchester, and Anna Breese and Kevin of Harrison, MI; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Pastor Jason Bennett officiating assisted by Darrell Lilly, Tom Stanley, and Bobby Hosey.

The interment will follow in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery with a committal time of 5:30 p.m. with Military Honors being presented by the West Virginia Army National Guard.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until service time at Arritt Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Austin Lilly, Andrew Lilly, Jason Lilly, Jacob Lilly, Anthony Borrero, and Parker Lawhon.

The family suggests memorial donations in Mr. Lilly's name be made to the New Hope Baptist Church, Attn: Church Building Fund at 1403 S. Dee Ave., Covington, VA 24426.

The funeral arrangements are being handled by Arritt Funeral Home.
