Obituary for Susan Inez Davis Susan Inez Davis
US Army Veteran Served In World War II

Susan Inez Davis, 90, of Lexington, died Wednesday, May 31, 2006 in the Heritage Hall Nursing Home.

Mrs. Davis was born on January 19, 1916 in Bedford Couunty, a daughter of the late Henry Thurman Graybill and Mary Walkup Graybill.

She was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II and was a member of the Poplar Hill Presbyterian Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and the American Legion, the East Lexington Extension Homemakers Club and the Loving Rebekah Lodge #74, as well as a volunteer with the Stonewall Jackson thrift shop.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lertie Hunter Davis and three brothers: Joseph Graybill, George Graybill and Big Junior Graybill.

Mrs. Davis is survived by three children: Lertie DeWitt Davis of Natural Bridge, Susan Davis Beverley and husband Thomas of Buena Vista, and James Hunter Davis and wife Liz of Killeen, TX; two sisters: Mrs. Elsie Leech of Forest and Ms. Eunice Wright of Madison Heights; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren which includes a special great granddaughter, Lillian Rylee; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Magnum and Pauline Hargrave.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2006 at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Larry Miles officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will follow in the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Rockbridge Area Hospice, P. O. Box 948, Lexington, VA 24450. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington.
