Obituary for Earl Poindexter Earl Poindexter
Well-Known Local Barber Was Army Veteran

Earl Poindexter, 79, of 207 Taylor Street, Lexington, died Saturday, June 3, 2006 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.

He was born on March 12, 1927, son of Robert and Nannie Poindexter.

He was preceded in death by four sisters: Selma Hubbard, Faultina Borgus, Gillie Long and Jeanette Poindexter; three brothers: Robert Poindexter, Edward Poindexter and two brother, Harold Poindexter; and one son, Earl Timothy Poindexter, Esq.

He is survived by his wife, Samantha C. Poindexter; one son, Dr. Kevin T. Poindexter (Kelli), four grandchildren: Colin, Charles, Chelsie and Christopher; two brothers: Payne Poindexter and Patrick Poindexter (Mabel); and close family associates, Georgette Poindexter Phillips and Birdie and Laura Evans.

Earl will also be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, family and close friends.

Earl was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army and retired from both Washington & Lee University and the United States Postal Service. He graduated from Turpin School of Barbering and Beauty Culture and worked for more than 50 years as a barber in Lexington.

Earl was a Prince Hall Mason and a life member of the Lexington Lifesaving Crew. Earl was strong in his faith as a member of the Randolph Street United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at the Randolph Street United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. William Thomas officiating. Intermnet will immediately follow at the Evergreen Cemetery. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements are being handled by Zack Lewis Funeral Services, Waynesboro, Virginia.
