Arlene (Genevieve) Mays Rhodes Arlene (Genevieve) Mays Rhodes
Lost Courageous Fight Against Cancer

My sweetheart and loving wife, Arlene (Genevieve) Mays Rhodes, age 70 of Salem and formerly of Buena Vista went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after living a beautiful and long life and fighting a courageous fight against cancer on July 7, 2006.

She was the daughter of the late Myrtle Louise Mays Herring and step-daughter of the late Clyde D. Herring.

A place in our hearts and in others was so wonderfully filled by MomÕs presence, her laughter, and her uncanny wisdom of what should be done in times of trial. This place was blessed with our Mom, and God truly blessed our home by allowing her presence to fill it. We know that nothing as unique as our Mom will ever again fill this place, our hearts and our home.

She is survived by her husband, Earl Franklin Rhodes, whom she had just shared 46 wonderful years of marriage. She is also survived by her son, Michael Earl Rhodes of Buena Vista; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Robert Taylor; grandchildren, Christian Taylor and Gabriel Taylor; aunt, Irene Breeden and her husband Wilfert of Buena Vista; step-brother and his wife, David and Carolyn Herring. She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph (Ronnie) Rhodes.

The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday, July 9, 2006 at the Blue Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Art Brumit officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2006 in the Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service on Sunday. Memorial donations may be made to the Blue Ridge Baptist Church.

We are ever indebted to the physicians and nurses in both the oncology and cardiology departments at Lewis-Gale Medical Center Š for their genuine and loving care of Mom. We further will always deeply appreciate Dr. Mark S. Currie and Dr. Vashist Nobbee, not only for excellent medical care, but for listening to and knowing MomÕs deepest heart.

Arrangements are being handled by the Lomax Funeral Home, Buena Vista (540-261-6585).
